Analysis and Computation of Two Body Impact in Three Dimensions

A formal impulse-based analysis is presented for the collision of two rigid bodies at single contact point under Coulomb friction in three dimensions (3D). The tangential impulse at the contact is known to be linear in the sliding velocity whose trajectory, parametrized with the normal impulse and referred to as the hodograph, is governed by a generally non-integrable ordinary differential equa...

An Algorithmic Comparison of Three Scientific Impact Indices

We use tools from Theoretical Computer Science to analyze the computational complexity of determining the h-index, the g-index, and the w-index in various models of computation. Our results confirm the natural intuition that the h-index is an easier concept than the g-index, which in turn is an easier concept than the w-index.

Mine Impact Burial Prediction From One to Three Dimensions

The Navy’s mine impact burial prediction model creates a time history of a cylindrical or a noncylindrical mine as it falls through air, water, and sediment. The output of the model is the predicted mine trajectory in air and water columns, burial depth/orientation in sediment, as well as height, area, and volume protruding. Model inputs consist of parameters of environment, mine characteristic...

Three dimensions of scheduling

Three Dimensions of Scheduling by Frank Bellosa The research presented in this dissertation has concentrated on the gathering and usage of memory access patterns in the area of user-level as well as kernel-level scheduling, yet covering both time-sharing and real-time aspects. Beside the questions when a task has to be executed and which CPU should be used, the freedom of scheduling is enlarged...

Three fundamental dimensions of scientific workflow interoperability: Model of computation, language, and execution environment

We investigate interoperability aspects of Grid workflow systems with respect to models of computation (MoC), workflow languages, and workflow execution environments. We focus on the problems that affect interoperability and illustrate how these problems are tackled by current scientific workflows as well as how similar problems have been addressed in related areas. Emphasis is given to the dif...
